This photo series documents the historic Domino Sugar Factory (also known as the Domino Sugar Refinery) located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York. These photographs were taken between 2008 and 2013 by documentary photographer Noah Kalina.
The Domino Sugar Factory was an iconic waterfront landmark on the East River in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Originally built in the 1850s, the refinery processed raw sugar cane for over 150 years before closing in 2004. The site has since been redeveloped, making these photographs an important historical record of the industrial architecture and atmosphere of the original Domino Sugar Refinery building.
Located at the edge of the East River along Kent Avenue in North Williamsburg, the Domino Sugar Factory was a defining feature of the Brooklyn waterfront and played a significant role in New York City's industrial history.
